In this age of hi-tech terrorism, the equipment used by the terrorists and militants rivals that of large government military agencies. You are presented with a ticking time bomb. It can only be diffused by the correct digital combination of numbers in its input. But you just have one minute to diffuse this bomb and prevent utter disaster. Try your luck designing an ultra-efficient portable bomb diffuser to do the trick. Be the quickest and you might just take away the first prize!
A black box with 2 8-bit inputs (X,Y)will be provided, along with an 8-bit output port (Z). Two handshake signals (SND, ACK) will also be provided. (Details of the type of connectors provided will be updated soon.) A specific combination of the two 8-bit numbers will give the minimum output in the output port. On attaining the minimum value the bomb is diffused. If one minute elapses after starting the event, the bomb is considered detonated and the team is disqualified.
Every time a new value is to be input, the required numbers are to be put in the input lines (X,Y) and the SND input is to be strobed high (a short high pulse). After that, the black box will generate the corresponding output and acknowledge by strobing the ACK signal high. Note that there will be a certain delay between SND strobe and ACK strobe.
UPDATE: Connection type:
The connections between black box and the embedded system of the participant will be through wires provided by us. The participant just needs to have standard pins for the input/output in the embedded system (Berg strip if its home-made).
Scoring will take into account the closeness to required output and the required no. of tries (a try being defined as the a set of input combinations, handshaking pulses and checking the corresponding output).
Rule: score = 400x(deviation from reqd. output) + 5*(no. of tries) Team with lowest score wins.
Max. no. of members in a team = 3 Microcontroller is not allowed to be re-programmed after entering arena Codes of the winning teams will be checked for hard-coding. If hard-coding is found, the team(s) will be disqualified and the next team(s) in terms of score will be winners In all disputes, decision of the judges will be final and binding
